THREE RIVERS, Mich. — As the community continues to pick up the pieces left behind by Friday’s EF-2 tornado, the City of Three Rivers Fire Department is advising residents to not burn yard waste or tree debris.
The department said that burning brush and yard waste after a storm may seem like a quick and easy way to get rid of debris, but it can actually lead to uncontrolled fires caused by dry grass, leaves, and vegetation left over from winter.
Especially if winds pick up, firefighters warn all that dryness allows fires to spread quickly and that many wildfires are caused by the burning of yard cleanup.
Residents may safely dispose their organic yard waste from the storm by dropping it off at the Three Rivers Public Services building, located at 1015 S. Lincoln Ave. Those with questions may call 269-273-1845.
