Elon Musk’s Starlink has just crossed a major regulatory hurdle in India. The satellite broadband company has secured spectrum approval from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), to begin services in the country. With this clearance, Starlink is expected to start full-scale operations “very soon.” Reports suggest that Starlink is in the process of setting up ground infrastructure and conducting mandatory security checks. The company is reportedly working on base stations across 10 sites nationwide, with Mumbai positioned as the central operations hub. Once complete, these facilities will handle satellite data traffic and ensure stable connectivity.

Here’s all we know about the Starlink India release timeline.

Starlink price and plans in India

According to leaks, the hardware setup cost could be around ₹30,000 or slightly higher, while monthly plans are expected to start from ₹3,300. Pricing may vary depending on regions and usage tiers. This positions Starlink as a premium service, but one that could be a game-changer for underserved areas where traditional broadband has failed to reach.

Starlink speed and availability

Starlink is expected to deliver speeds ranging from 25 Mbps to 220 Mbps, depending on the plan. Entry-level packages will likely offer 25–50 Mbps speeds, while higher-end tiers could go up to 220 Mbps. For context, such speeds are often out of reach in rural India, making Starlink a potential disruptor for digital inclusion.

However, there will be limits. The government has capped Starlink at 2 million connections across India, at least in the initial rollout phase.

Starlink India launch timeline

While most clearances are in place, Starlink still needs final approval for its SATCOM gateway and spectrum acquisition. If all goes as planned, the company could roll out services within the next three to four months, which means an official launch window between December 2025 and January 2026.
