Here’s your first look at Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas in John Carney’s comedy Power Ballad.
The film’s synopsis reads: When Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves – even if it means risking everything he cares about. From writer-director John Carney (Sing Street, Once), Power Ballad is a feel-good story about music, self-respect, friendship, and the price of ambition.
Carney directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Peter McDonald. Producers on the film are Anthony Bregman, John Carney, Peter Cron, Rebecca O’Flanagan, and Robert Walpole.
The cast features Rudd and Jonas alongside Peter McDonald, Marcella Plunkett, Havana Rose Liu, and Jack Reynor.
30West fully financed and executive produced Power Ballad. The film debuted at the Dublin Film Festival and will play at the upcoming SXSW Film Festival.
The film will hit cinemas on June 5. Check out the trailer above.
