A local health-care worker is celebrating after her ticket number was drawn in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation February 50/50 draw.

Alissa Begin of Sault Ste. Marie, who won $66,632 in the draw, has worked at Sault Area Hospital for the last 12 years.

“I strongly believe in the importance of investing in patient care,” Begin said in a news release.

“New equipment and services can be life-changing, especially for hospitals and patients across northern Ontario where access to specialized care can sometimes be limited.”

Begin says she’s still making plans for her winnings, but paying off some debt is at the top of her list.

On Feb. 27, Alissa Begin of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., won a $66,632 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) February 50/50 draw. Alissa’s lucky number (F-17522015) was drawn electronically, and she was called immediately.

Alissa has worked at Sault Area Hospital (SAH) for the last 12 years. As someone who works on the front lines, she understands the importance of supporting local health care.

“I strongly believe in the importance of investing in patient care,” shared Alissa.

“New equipment and services can be life-changing, especially for hospitals and patients across Northern Ontario where access to specialized care can sometimes be limited.”

Giving back to the community is very important to Alissa. “I try to give back when I can and support other community fundraisers,” said Alissa. “Winning this draw is truly an honour, and I’m thankful to be able to contribute to such a meaningful cause.”

Alissa is still making plans for her winnings, but paying off some debt is at the top of her list.

Alissa wasn’t the only winner this month – February’s Early Bird, Suzanne Bowman of Sudbury, Ont., was the lucky winner of $10,000 on Feb. 19, with ticket F-21112459.

“Alissa’s story really shows the full circle impact of the SAHF 50/50,“ said Teresa Martone, Executive Director for Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “She supports the program, works at SAH, and uses the equipment funded through community supporters every day. It’s a powerful reminder that when our community gives, everyone wins.”
