LAS VEGAS – Colby Garland put on a clinical performance Wednesday night, playing every single minute to lead No. 11 seed San José State (9-23, 3-17 MW) to an 84-74 victory over No. 6 seed Boise State (20-12, 12-8 MW) at the Thomas & Mack Center. Garland’s career night propelled the Spartans into the next round of the Mountain West Championship and snapped Boise State’s five-game winning streak.
Garland was the engine for the Spartan offense, finishing with a team-high 22 points. He was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line and added five rebounds and four assists, consistently settling the team during Boise State’s second-half comeback attempts.
The Spartans took control early, utilizing a 7-0 run in the first half to establish a lead they would hold for over 26 minutes of the contest. While Boise State’s Javan Buchanan led all scorers with 28 points, the Spartans’ balanced scoring attack—supported by Garland’s steady hand—proved too much for the Broncos.
San José State entered the locker room with a 41-39 halftime lead and blew the game open in the second half. The lead stretched to as many as 16 points with six minutes remaining, fueled by high-efficiency shooting and a defense that turned 10 Boise State turnovers into 15 points.
