Marco Odermatt etched his name even deeper into the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup record books by securing two more titles in a single day.

The Swiss superstar claimed his seventh men’s downhill race podium of the season on Friday (13 March), finishing third in the first of three speed events scheduled this weekend in Courchevel, France.

With the result, he mathematically sealed his third consecutive downhill Crystal Globe trophy as well as his fifth overall season title – tying him for second on the men’s all-time list with Luxembourg legend Marc Girardelli and trailing only Marcel Hirscher, who holds the record with eight season crowns.

On the Eclipse course – where he won the world title three years ago – Odermatt already knew at the start that the downhill globe was his after teammate and Olympic champion Franjo von Allmen, who was second in the standings, skied out during his run and failed to finish.

With the 60 points earned for finishing third, the Swiss four-time Olympic medallist Odermatt also extended his lead in the overall standings over Lucas Pinheiro Braathen – who is not racing in Courchevel – to 632 points, making it impossible for the Brazilian to catch him at next week’s World Cup Finals in Norway.

On a sunny day under warm conditions, Odermatt produced a solid run without major mistakes but could not match the pace of early leader Vincent Kriechmayr, who eventually took the win, beating Milano Cortina 2026 silver medallist Giovanni Franzoni into second by nine hundredths of a second.

The action continues in Courchevel with two Super-G races scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
