The Jewish Community Foundation (JCF) generously donated $25,000 to the Yavapai County Free Library District to purchase online e-books and magazines for K–12 students who receive library services from the Yavapai Library Network (YLN). Without their generous support, these materials would not be available for the next school year, as no other funding was in place to provide the service. The donation will be used to purchase materials on Overdrive’s SORA platform.
SORA is a digital reading platform that allows K-12 students to borrow and explore audiobooks and e-books with their school library card. The platform is tailor-made for schools and gives students access to titles suited to their grade level that they can read, listen to, or follow along with. In addition to digital books, students can also enjoy all-access passes to educational magazines and comics featuring popular characters like Spiderman, the Babysitter’s Club, and more.
Suzie Roth, the County School Librarian, stated, “Heartfelt thanks to the JCF for their generous donation! These funds will enable us to build on the existing collection and continue the subscriptions that are so popular.”
The $25,000 donation will not only sustain free access to SORA across YLN schools but also expand the catalog to include a broader range of educational and popular titles, aiding students in their learning journey and inspiring their love for reading.
