Cash the viral donkey is at it again. This sweet burrow has taken a rescue mule under his hoof. In this sweet video, we get to watch Cash check on his new friend, but not pester him.

The caption gives us the details, “I can’t stop thinking about this moment from Thursday night. Oscar had just arrived. He was scared, unsure, stepping into a world completely new to him. Then Cash walked into the stall.” In the clip, Cash peeks his head in and waits patiently.

The on-screen text reminds us of something we all know, “You can’t tell me animals don’t have feelings.” Cash gives us proof that donkeys empathize with their fellow equines.

The donkey mom explains more in the rest of the caption, “He didn’t push him. He didn’t challenge him. He just stood there… quietly holding space for him. Like he knew Oscar needed a friend. I’ve always known Cash was special. But last night reminded me just how deep their hearts really are.” The tears will flow by the end of the video.

The top comment, from @Cheetahmunk, understood the donkey’s place on the farm, “Cash is your onsite social worker.” Others took this idea further with @Tat remarking, “Cash was born with a purpose…. To make everyone else feel ease and safety.” We love seeing Cash fulfill his higher cause. @cristeng summed up our feelings best, “Makes me smile and brings tears to my eyes at the same time.” Same!

All About Oscar the Mule

Our Simple Homestead confirmed in an earlier video that Oscar is actually a blind mule, and a rescue. The farm took him in after he was put up for auction, which likely would have led to his slaughter.

A mule is half horse and half donkey, specifically with a donkey dad and horse mom. That makes them hardier than horses, but less stubborn than donkeys. That’s a winning combination if we ever saw one. Luckily for Oscar, they also live a long time, meaning he could have many peaceful years left in his new home.
