The station’s Saturday presenter Thanga Rekha is nominated in the Best Newcomer category, one of 13 categories for which the winners were announced on Saturday, March 21.

The event marks the 100th anniversary of the start of the first hospital radio station in the UK.

It was York County Hospital that connected patients to entertainment by installing headphones at more than 200 beds and 70 loudspeakers to broadcast live, including church services and football commentaries.

Meanwhile, Basingstoke presenter Neil Ogden will be celebrating 35 years on air with HRB’s longest-running show, ‘Sound of Sunday’, with a special show during the weekend of March 28 and 29.

The celebration will feature friends of the show choosing their favourite song from the last 35 years, the best of the guests from the show and a whole hour of playing music only on vinyl.

HRB broadcasts around Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital on bedside radios, on local DAB radio, online and on smart speakers.

The station is always looking for volunteers to help expand its programming.
