Here are the latest updates from day 28 of the United States’ and Israel’s war against Iran and Hezbollah:

â–  A Hezbollah rocket strike on the northern Israeli city of Nahariya killed one person and wounded three others, one seriously, as the group launched dozens of rockets, mortar shells and drones at Israel throughout Thursday.

â–  The IDF said 21-year-old Sergeant Aviaad Elchanan Volansky, from Jerusalem, was killed by anti-tank gunfire in southern Lebanon. Volansky is the second Israeli soldier killed today and the fourth in southern Lebanon since the war began. Two other soldiers and two officers were lightly wounded in the same incident, and several others have been injured or evacuated due to cold-related conditions over the past 24 hours.

â–  An Iranian official said the death toll in Iran has reached at least 1,937, with more than 24,800 wounded since the start of the war.

â–  Iran has formally responded to a U.S. cease-fire proposal, demanding compensation, guarantees the war will not resume, and recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

â–  U.S. President Donald Trump said “very substantial talks” are underway with Iran but insisted he is “not desperate” for a deal, adding that taking control of Iran’s oil remains “an option.”

â–  U.S. Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said there are “strong signs” Iran is seeking an off-ramp and that a deal is within reach following a U.S. ultimatum.

■ Gulf states are signaling support for increased pressure on Iran – including possible military escalation – to force concessions, while still pushing for a decisive end to the war.

â–  The IDF said it killed a senior commander in Hezbollah’s anti-tank unit, Hassan Mohammad Bashir, in an airstrike in southern Lebanon. The military added that it has killed more than 750 militants in strikes on key Hezbollah infrastructure.

â–  Sirens sounded across central and northern Israel and parts of the West Bank following an Iranian and Lebanese missile barrages, amid continued multi-front attacks, with 245 alerts today.

â–  The IDF expanded its ground campaign in southern Lebanon, deploying the 162nd Division and ordering residents south of the Zahrani River to evacuate immediately.

â–  G7 foreign ministers meeting in France are working to align with Washington on a strategy to end the conflict and prevent further regional escalation.

â–  Former prime minister Ehud Olmert called for international intervention over rising settler violence in the West Bank, warning of “organized” attacks against Palestinians and urging the ICC to take action.

â–  Israel’s Home Front Command extended restrictions on public gatherings nationwide until Saturday night.
