Fans get their first glimpse at where Latveria stands in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ahead of Doctor Doom’s proper debut in Avengers: Doomsday.

As seen in a Twitter post from fan account MCU Film News, a new image from the next MCU crossover film reveals a seat in what appears to be a summit of world leaders featuring a nameplate reading “LATVERIA.” Sitting just to the side of the plaque is what appears to be a small Latverian flag, bearing a black and red cross set against a deep green background with a series of yellow diamonds at its center. Notably, this isn’t a glimpse at the status of Doctor Doom’s home nation (which he rules over with an iron fist) in the primary MCU, but in the reality of Earth-828, where the events of The Fantastic Four: First Steps took place.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting further news regarding Avengers: Doomsday and, more importantly, Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU. After portraying Tony Stark, better known as Iron Man, across nearly a dozen different films, the longtime fan favorite will be heading back to the franchise to help chart the course of its entire future as the MCU’s next big bad. This shift came about largely due to the loss of Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, with the former MCU star’s legal troubles and subsequent exit from the franchise forcing Marvel Studios to alter the trajectory of multiple features to come.

Apart from Downey Jr., Avengers: Doomsday will mark the return of a whole host of MCU fan-favorites. On top of classic Avengers such as Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, the likes of Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, Leitia Wright’s Shuri, and even the cast members of the MCU’s Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be joining forces for Avengers: Doomsday, or at least crossing paths. Perhaps even more exciting are the returns of numerous mutant heroes from across various X-Men films, ranging from Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charls Xavier to Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler.

Another star whose upcoming return in Avengers: Doomsday has fans already on the edge of their seats is Channing Tatum, who will be reprising his role as Remy LeBeau, a.k.a Gambit, from Deadpool & Wolverine. During a recent interview, Tatum noted that fans looking forward to seeing his Gambit on the silver screen once more will potentially be left wanting by his next performance, specifically for how toned-down the character’s accent will be. “I’m not gonna go full Cajun,” Tatum explained. “[Directors Anthony and Joe Russo] want things to be funny, but they don’t want to go full Deadpool. They want to keep the drama and keep it tight. When Gambit gets serious — when he drops the Mardi Gras mask — things do matter.”

Avengers: Doomsday is currently slated to arrive in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
