Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 2.Daredevil: Born Again season 2 continues to build out the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s street-level side, and one of its new episodes does so by revealing the fate of a character from Netflix’s The Defenders Saga. That version of the Marvel franchise was anchored by Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, Finn Jones’ Iron Fist, and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher.
Out of those five heroes, three have already returned to the MCU’s slate of projects. That said, The Defenders Saga was formed by a wide array of characters, ranging from villains like Kilgrave and Cottonmouth to heroes like Misty Knight and Colleen Wing to smaller characters like Stick and Turk. Now, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 has revealed the fate of yet another Netflix player.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Answers A Major Question

Joanne Whalley as Sister Maggie Grace on Daredevil
Marvel chose to release episodes 2 and 3 of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 together. The first of them ended up revealing a major piece of MCU lore right at the start. When Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye enters the church, he asks the priest about the whereabouts of Sister Maggie, who happens to be Matt Murdock’s mother. The show then revealed that she is on a sabbatical year in Rome.
After the events of The Defenders, Matt laid low and was taken care of by Sister Maggie. As such, after Mayor Fisk outlawed vigilantes like Daredevil and sent his Anti-Vigilante Task Force to round them up, it seemed like Matt could have gone to his mother for help. However, that was not explored in the season 2 premiere, and Marvel just answered the fans’ big question.
Will Sister Maggie Ever Return To The MCU?
Based on the way things are going in New York City, with the city under Fisk’s control and a brutal police force violently patrolling the streets, it would not make sense for Sister Maggie to come back during the events of Daredevil: Born Again season 2. However, the path for her to come back exists. After Marvel’s returning series mentioned her, the character could return in season 3.
After all, following Daredevil: Born Again’s creative overhaul, the gritty series is now closer to the original Daredevil show. Several characters and actors from the Netflix Daredevil series and the wider The Defenders Saga have returned, with players like Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones adding to that tally in Daredevil: Born Again season 2. As such, there would be no reason to keep Sister Maggie away.
Since the creatives have mentioned how season 2 will see the end of the Mayor Fisk storyline, the events of season 3 could take place a year or more after that, allowing Sister Maggie’s sabbatical year in Rome to come to a close. After losing Foggy Nelson and having to deal with Fisk taking over his city, Matt could definitely use his mother’s support in Daredevil: Born Again.
