The Orlando Magic have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA this season. They were expected to be dark-horse contenders to win the Eastern Conference after trading for Desmond Bane. Instead, they have disappointed.
Right now, Orlando sits ninth in the Eastern Conference standings. With that being the case, there are going to be some changes in the offseason. They have the assets to make some trades if they want, which is something they should explore.
Bleacher Report has a bold trade proposal that would have them land Giannis Antetokounmpo, the most sought-after player in the offseason. They would have to send the Bucks an appealing young player, too.
Bold Trade Proposal has Magic Bring in Giannis Antetokounmpo
Here is the full trade proposal:
Orlando Magic Get:Â Giannis Antetokounmpo
Milwaukee Bucks Get:Â Paolo Banchero, Wendell Carter Jr., a first-round pick swap in 2031, and a 2032 first-round pick
This trade would see them give up on Banchero, a player that they took number-one overall in 2022. Yet, it doesn’t seem to have worked in Orlando. He has been injured often, and the team seems to play better with him on the bench. All of that means it might be better to part ways with him.
Sending Banchero to Milwaukee would give the Bucks a young player to build around for the future. Milwaukee would also be interested in some first-round picks in any trade that they would execute with Antetokounmpo. Orlando might ask for an unprotected pick instead of a pick swap, though.
Orlando making this move would signal that they are trying to contend next season. They would be able to keep Bane and Franz Wagner, both of whom have been good this season. Wagner needs to be able to stay healthy, however. So does Jalen Suggs, which is something he has struggled with his entire career.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Would be a Great Fit in Orlando
Antetokounmpo would be a good fit in Orlando. He is the kind of player who doesn’t need a lot of glitz and glamour in his NBA city. That’s part of the reason why he has worked so well in Milwaukee. It’s clear that both he and the Bucks need a fresh start.
With Wagner, Bane, and Suggs still on the roster, Antetokounmpo would fit well with his style of play. He would be able to run a lot of pick and roll and also distribute to shooters on the outside. He is not just a great scorer on offense, but a good passer, as well.
Defensively, he would get the Magic back to playing the kind of defense they did a year ago. This year, they are just 16th in the league in defense. When Orlando was playing its best, it was because the defense was smothering opponents into poor offensive decisions.
Bringing Antetokounmpo in would really give them a new identity. He would immediately give the Magic a chance to compete in the playoffs next year, which is something they likely won’t be doing this season.
