Jada Pinkett Smith has been on quite the hair journey. The actress and talk show host first revealed she had been dealing with alopecia in May 2018, a condition that results in hair loss. But after wearing her head bald the last few years, she’s sharing her hair regrowth. In her latest selfie, her hair seems to be longer than it has been in years.

In the photo, which she recently shared to her Instagram Stories, the actress sported a blonde pixie styled in tiny looping buns all over her head and two long thin braids draped down on either side of her head.

The photo comes after Pinkett Smith shared an update on her hair journey in 2023. At the time, she shared a selfie that showed off some stubble appearing on her head, along with a photo that featured longer hair, which she had bleached. “This here hair is act’n like it’s try’n a make a come back,” she wrote. “Still have some trouble spots but—we’ll see✨.”
Since then, Pinkett Smith has been wearing her hair short and blonde.
Pinkett Smith was previously married to actor Will Smith. In 2022, Smith infamously mounted the stage at the Oscars and slapped host Chris Rock after he made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s hair loss. “I learned a lot about detachment. And I learned a deeper beauty within myself, being able to let my hair go,” Pinkett Smith later told The Guardian about the viral moment.
She added that being diagnosed with alopecia “was scary,” especially because “as Black women, we identify so much of ourselves with our hair.” She added, “I had to really dig deep and see the beauty of myself beyond my aesthetics.”
In 2023, Pinkett Smith revealed that she and Smith had actually previously separated in 2016. They share son Jaden and daughter Willow.

In recent months, the exes have reunited on several occasions. In January, they made a joint appearance at Paris Fashion Week to support Jaden, who serves as Christian Louboutin’s first men’s creative director, as he showed his debut collection. A few months earlier, they were spotted together having dinner.
