Iceage have announced their sixth studio album, For Love of Grace & the Hereafter, will be released May 29th via Mexican Summer. The Danish indie punk band has also released a new single, “Ember,” and an accompanying video in anticipation of the upcoming LP. Stream it below.
For Love of Grace & the Hereafter marks the band’s first album of new material in five years and promises to be tight and glossy, but still cutting to the point of bleeding. Howling vocals mix with dissonant riffs that transition into harmonic bliss and catchy melodies, which break down again throughout the record.
The opening track, “Ember,” embodies the loving and menacing approach. Vocalist Elias Rønnenfelt sings, “I love you in an ominous way,” manifesting in words the paradoxical songwriting. Rønnenfelt’s lyrics are sung over shimmering acoustic guitar, no percussion, and harmonious voices before collapsing into an atonal scream and disjointed chords. The following section reaches the zenith of the song, a punk rock chorus with matching riffs punctuated by guttural harmonies that proclaim, “I caught you like an ember falling down.” It feels like the song disappears when you catch it, but you can feel the burn and know it was there.

Iceage recorded For Love of Grace & the Hereafter at Silence Studio in 2025, a modest house in rural Sweden near the Norwegian border. This marks a return to the studio where they recorded 2014’s Plowing Into the Field of Love. The band cherished consistency, with the latest album being produced and mixed by longtime collaborator Nis Bysted.
After 18 years as a band and thousands of hours on stage, they aren’t resting on their laurels but, instead, trusting their instincts on the new record. “The songs needed to be immediate, urgent, raw, and fast,” Rønnenfelt said in a statement. “We wanted to try to shed any unnecessary weight. Catching outlets of energy is what excites us the most.”
