Christina Aguilera‘s fate as a platinum blond was sealed the moment she realized dark hair wasn’t compatible with her complexion.

“Since I was a teenager, I felt most confident and most myself as a blond. It worked for me. When I get too, too dark, I’m not a fan of my particular complexion with it,” she told WWD in an exclusive interview. “I definitely love change, as you’ve seen throughout the years and the different projects and videos and things, but blond is my go-to classic.”

That said, the maintenance, on top of her demanding stage schedule, has certainly done a number on her ends. “Us girlies, we need products to help get us through breakage and damage,” Aguilera said. “I definitely get very dry with all the travel that I do too, airplanes, hotels, different air qualities throughout the globe. I need moisture. I need things that are going to hold in there and make [my hair] feel yummy.”

After years of testing countless products, the “Beautiful” singer has finally found what she’s been after. With damage repair shampoo, conditioner, a treatment mask and more, Aguilera claims Nexxus’ Keraphix Collection is the hero.

“I think it’s very obvious whenever something doesn’t work right away. You pretty much know if it feels right, and if it’s doing its job because it has a lasting effect and that’s what I love is the consistency with what I’ve come to understand and love about [the Keraphix collection],” said Aguilera, who’s now been named the face of the line.

Announced Wednesday, the vocalist will star in a special-edition commercial titled “Nexxtina,” in which she explores the many causes of hair damage, from bleaching to heat styling, thanks to Nexxus’ key product, the Liquid Crystallizer Reconstructive Leave-in Treatment, made with liquid crystal serine amino acids and Keratin Resistance Therapy.

“I love having something to go to after the shampoo and conditioner that I can just leave in my hair, that I’m going to feel gives residual effect after the fact and throughout my day,” Aguilera said of the treatment. “It just has that really good bounce back feel.”

All the products, she continued, are the innovations she wishes she knew about when she first started experimenting with her hair. “Lord knows we need the help because of our busy lives, our busy schedules, being a mom to just yourself just wanting to have fun. We go through a lot with irons, with heat, with hairspray, with all of the different things,” she said. “So yeah, we need all the help we can get. And Nexxus is a classic brand that has proven that through the years.”
