The most extreme parts of Euphoria season 3 are in Rue’s storyline. Zendaya is trading guns, running drugs, and managing a desert strip club. Chloe Cherry’s Faye is right there with her. In the premiere, Rue and Faye run drugs across the border, clenching their butts to hold bags of fentanyl in their digestive tract for as long as possible. The scene where Rue and Faye ingest the bags is harrowing. As Rue VO explains that one burst bag could cause a lethal overdose, Zendaya and Cherry stuff bags down their throat with the help of KY jelly. They massage their own throats over the balls like geese getting fattened up to be pâté. Sounds like an awful thing to shoot, but Cherry says it was some of the most fun she’s had on the show. “I had so much fun filming,” Cherry said at the Euphoria season 3 premiere. “It was fun for me to act out something that was that intense.”
Cherry described her process like this: “Sam said ‘In this scene, I want to see that you’re really, really, really grossed out by this. And I was like, ‘Okay.’ I was imagining If I was really doing this, I would be really grossed out by this. So then I was getting actually disgusted by what I was doing, but I just kept going. And then when we finished shooting the scene, everyone clapped. Everyone on set clapped for me. I’m serious.” We believe you, Chloe. We’re applauding you now. It was really, really gross.
