Despite the unimaginable tragedy Martin Short has faced with losing his daughter, insiders claim he’s going to try to look at the positives in life, and spend time with his reported girlfriend, Meryl Streep.

“Meryl and Martin have a complex dynamic because they do not refer to each other as ‘boyfriend’ and ‘girlfriend’ per se,” the insider said to InTouch Weekly. “They have an incredibly close, intense relationship, [they’ll] probably spend the rest of their lives together in some way or another.”
While “he’s constantly pushing that forward, even amid the extreme grief over his daughter’s death,” insiders say after The Devil Wears Prada 2 comes out, they “can retreat to one of their homes and be together to savor the success.”
They added, “Meryl is going to have her moment, and then they can relax and enjoy each other’s company for the entire summer.”

For those who don’t know, Streep and Short have been pals for literal years, but it seemingly didn’t turn romantic until 2024. They’ve played on-screen lovers in Only Murders in the Building since 2023, and while they at first denied their romance, it seems to be one of Hollywood’s worst-kept secrets.
Plus, in Sept 2025, during the 2025 Emmy Awards, Selena Gomez was caught on camera reacting to Short’s text messages, mouthing to her fiancé, Benny Blanco, “Martin’s texting Meryl.”
“Meryl couldn’t help but fall for Martin,” an insider said to Page Six in 2025. “He is a gentleman, he keeps her laughing, and is an all-around positive person. She loves being around him.”
