Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End fans have plenty to look forward to this winter anime season, with the anime now confirmed to make a return, both in Japan and on international streaming platform Crunchyroll, very soon.
Via its official anime account on X (formerly Twitter), Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 is revealed to make its return to the airwaves on Jan. 16, 2026, with new episodes airing each Friday night (JST) after that date. The news was accompanied by a brand-new key visual starring Frieren herself, alongside long-time travel companions Fern and Stark.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 Gets Exciting Release Date Reveal
As previously announced, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 will be streaming on Crunchyroll as it airs in Japan; however, the streamer has not yet confirmed a simulcast (as of writing). The series is being directed by Tomoya Kitagawa, replacing Season 1 Frieren director Keiichiro Saito, with Madhouse (Overlord, No Game No Life, One-Punch Man Season 1) returning to animate the hit show. The anime will pick up from Volume 7, Chapter 61 (“Magic-Nullifying Crystal”) of the original manga series.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End began as a manga in 2020, written by Kanehito Yamadaand illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. Following the long-lived titular elf, Frieren, it details her life after being part of a party that defeated the infamous Demon King. With most of her previous party now long dead, the near-immortal Frieren travels the world with her new companions in search of the resting place of souls to reunite with her former comrade, Himmel.
Frieren remains one of the most popular fantasy manga and anime to come out of Japan in recent years, with a Tolkien-esque protagonist and Western-style fantasy world that spans over many decades (despite this feeling like only a few days to the long-lived Frieren). To date, the manga has over 30 million copies in circulation, while the anime has received critical acclaim and won numerous awards both in Japan and internationally.
