John Wick creator Derek Kolstad’s newest film, Normal, will be released on digital platforms soon.

Normal arrives on digital video on demand platforms beginning Tuesday, May 19 at 12 a.m. EDT (or Monday, May 18 at 9 p.m. PDT for those on the West Coast). The film can currently be pre-ordered on Prime Video for $24.99 (in either standard or high definition). The Blu-ray release is scheduled for July 14, but a streaming date hasn’t been announced yet.

Ben Wheatley, who previously directed Meg 2: The Trench and episodes of Doctor Who, helmed Normal from a script by Kolstad, the screenwriter behind John Wick, John Wick: Chapter 2, and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Kolstad also executive produced The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and John Wick spinoff The Continental.

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul alum Bob Odenkirk stars in Normal as an interim sheriff named Ulysses, who shows up to a small town in the Midwest expecting a pretty quiet environment. However, a bank robbery changes all that when Ulysses realizes the town of Normal, Minnesota, is filled with conspiracies and crimes, including ties to the Yakuza gang.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley, Wheatley described Normal as an “anti-action” thriller and explained that the characters in the film get killed through various accidents and Final Destination-like catastrophes, amid a hostile environment that Ulysses gets caught up in.

When it was released less than two weeks ago on April 17, Normal received mostly positive reviews from critics and earned a Certified Fresh score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film debuted at No. 7 on opening weekend and went on to gross $4.5 million. Before its theatrical release, the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in fall 2025.

Odenkirk’s co-stars include Happy Days’ Henry Winkler, Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey, Billy MacLellan, Brendan Fletcher, Peter Shinkoda, Jess McLeod, Reena Jolly, and Ryan Allen. Odenkirk also served as an executive producer alongside Kolstad and Mark Provissiero.

This isn’t the first time that Odenkirk and Kolstad have worked together. Before Normal, the screenwriter wrote the scripts for Nobody and Nobody 2, which starred the Breaking Bad alum as a former assassin who gets targeted by a mafia boss while he’s trying to raise a family with his wife.

In the sequel, his character, Hutch Mansell, attempts to get away from the stresses of life by going on vacation, but he gets pulled into even more dangerous and life-threatening circumstances.

Aside from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, which earned him several Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, Odenkirk has also appeared in Nebraska, The Post, Incredibles 2, Fargo, and Lucky Hank, among many other projects.

Normal will be released on digital platforms on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
