Warning! The following contains potential SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again.The loose narrative outline of Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 no longer seems to be a mystery with so many leaks and reveals crawling out of the woodwork as filming has commenced—perhaps the only complaint anyone might have about a TV show having an annual seasonal release schedule nowadays. Luke Cage actor Mike Colter possibly spoiled that Season 3 is adapting one or more Matthew Murdock prison arcs from Marvel comic book source material, for example, while set photos took the liberty of unceremoniously revealing that Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist will all appear, as well.
At the time of this writing, there is only one episode left to air for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, which has kept its foot on the gas pedal nearly the whole way through. We have unfortunately learned what becomes of one particularly troubled character thanks to new set photos, but something belonging to the environment of the set itself may result in an even more alarming reveal to come in Season 3.
Is Foggy Revealed To Be Alive In Born Again Season 3?
Thanks to photos taken on a public, outdoors set of Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, it appears as if Dr. Heather Glenn’s response to the trauma of her horrific encounter with Muse in Season 1 will snowball into her becoming Muse herself (the show’s iteration of Morgan Whittier’s Lady Muse, whose costume design is adapted as faithfully as the original Muse’s). It is what lies behind her, however, that is far more startling.
An otherwise inconspicuous piece of “No Trespassing” signage on a chain-link fence has “553” spray-painted onto it, and it would seem like little more than coincidence or an arbitrary number if not for the content matter of Daredevil legacy issue #553 and how it relates to Franklin “Foggy” Nelson’s faked death. It has long been rumored that Foggy is somehow still alive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite Matt believing he heard Foggy flatline after Bullseye shot him, and this could be our first official scrap of evidence that he is.
Still, it would be quite odd to pull the rug out from under fans this far down the line, especially with Foggy’s death playing such an instrumental role in Matt and Karen Page’s individual character developments throughout the Disney+ revival series thus far. It is surprising that Daredevil: Born Again has not relented and brought him back already, assuming this reference is legitimate and purposeful, and having his absence heartbreakingly felt for almost two whole seasons of television has been a bold way to convince fans that he is dead, regardless.
Daredevil Is Crowning Itself The King(pin) Of Easter Eggs
If this signage is meant to deliberately reference Daredevil (2014) #5 from writers Mark Waid and Chris Samnee and artist Javier Rodriguez, it will confidently cement Daredevil: Born Again as having some of the best MCU Easter eggs ever, following Daredevil: Born Again Season 2’s Watcher Easter egg. Of course, with Mayor Wilson Fisk’s reign the last couple of seasons, it would be a stretch to imagine that Foggy was somehow snuck away into witness protection or hiding on his own somewhere Matt would not be able to detect his heartbeat.
It is potential Easter eggs like this that will pedestal Daredevil: Born Again as a water-cooler TV show, layering it with storytelling clues that some fans may miss or overlook. It will be thrilling to see what the finale of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 has in store, and a reveal that Foggy is still alive, even if it is unbeknownst to Matt and Karen, would confirm that the “553” signage in Season 3 is remarkable.
