No genre does franchising quite like horror. From nearly three decades of Scream to the resurgence of I Know What You Did Last Summer, your favorite monsters and killers are never really dead; they’re just taking a hiatus. But with more than 15 years since the last time we spotted the machete-wielding psychopath Jason Voorhees, fans are beginning to wonder if the Friday the 13th franchise will ever come back to the big screen. With Peacock and A24 hard at work with the prequel series, Crystal Lake, the hockey-goalie-mask-wearing slasher is finally part of the conversation again, and thanks to one of the stars of the upcoming Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon, we have an incredibly promising update to share.

In support of Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon’s world premiere at Fantastic Fest, Collider’s Perri Nemiroff sat down to chat with the project’s director, Jason Lei Howden, and two of its stars, Kimberly Crossman and Adam Scherr. For the latter, the blood-filled sequel serves as his latest venture into cinematic projects, having previously performed under the moniker of Braun Strowman in the WWE. Now gaining wider notoriety as an actor, Scherr said he has plans to not only continue his Hollywood takeover but is incredibly hopeful that he’ll be the next actor to put on the mask of Jason Voorhees and wreak havoc on unsuspecting teens.

After being asked by Nemiroff which iconic horror franchise he’d like to be part of, Scherr didn’t hesitate, quickly responding, “Oh, Friday the 13th. Jason,” adding that he would “gladly shave this beard off to play that character.” Breathing hope into a long-gone franchise favorite and teasing that there may very well be something already in the works that just hasn’t made it into the light of day yet, Scherr added:

“There may be some talks about it with people that I know and my agency. If we could ever get everybody to get back on the same page and allow the things to work, I might be the next Voorhees.”

‘Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon’: The Splatterfest You’ve Been Waiting For

Before he continues his talks with the powers that be behind the Friday the 13th franchise, Scherr will appear as a security guard in Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon. Following the immense popularity of the 2015 film, Deathgasm, Howden went back to the drawing board and crafted a sequel worthy of the jaw-dropping film that came before it. With Milo Cawthorne set to reprise his role as the guitar-smashing Brodie, the film will follow the metalhead as he attempts to resurrect his deceased bandmates and bring hell’s fury straight to the highly competitive Battle of the Bands.
