Liberals Promise to Create Crown Corporation to Address Healthcare Workforce Issues

(Submitted by Liberal Party of NL)

The Liberals have committed to creating a new Crown corporation to address workforce issues in the health care system.

Party leader John Hogan made the announcement in Port Saunders earlier today.

Hogan says the new corporation will focus on recruitment, retention, and workforce planning.

He says they will work with the health authority, provincial and federal governments, labour organizations, and licensing bodies to address vacancies.

Hogan says the move would let NLHS focus on delivering health care and the new entity would focus on the other issues stemming from recruitment and retention.

Hogan has also committed to covering the tuition for practicum courses for nursing students, offering all nursing grads full-time employment, implementing a permanent travel locum program, and establishing an Independent Health Sector Safety Council.
