Points, ranks and league tables for Gameweek 38 in Fantasy Premier League will remain provisional until the post-match data review process by Opta has been completed.

After the final whistle of the last matches of the season, scores, leagues and ranks will continue to update as usual. However, they will not be locked within the normal period.

This is because the Opta event statistics that help power key FPL scoring elements, including the Bonus Points System (BPS) and defensive contribution points, are subject to post-match review.

Opta review each Premier League match in its entirety after the final whistle, ensuring that the data recorded for every match event is as accurate as possible.

The final set of post-match data is expected to be received within six hours of the final whistle of the final Gameweek 38 fixture. Based on expected match timings, we anticipate that Gameweek 38 scoring will remain provisional until approximately 00:00 BST on Monday 25 May.

During this period, points totals, bonus points, defensive contribution points, overall ranks and league positions may still change.

Once the post-match data for each of the 10 fixtures has been received and processed, all Gameweek 38 scores will be locked and final season standings will be confirmed.

This approach is being taken to ensure that final Gameweek scores, ranks and league tables are based on the most complete and accurate post-match data available.

Why this decision has been made

To this point, and as per the rules, points in Fantasy Premier League have been locked approximately one hour after the final whistle of the final matchday in a Gameweek.

However, over the season we have observed post-match data updates from Opta arriving after this time. As a result, data for some of the final matches of a Gameweek can be updated after the lock time and therefore are NOT reflected in Fantasy Premier League scoring. Pass completion, tackles and interceptions are examples of data that can sometimes be affected.

The decision has been made for Gameweek 38 because it is a unique scenario, with all matches kicking off at 16:00 BST on Sunday 24 May. This increases the amount of data from the final matchday that could be affected by the regular lock time.

Because Gameweek 38 determines final season ranks and final league standings, the aim is to ensure that all final scoring is based on the most complete and accurate post-match data available.

This approach will be carried over into the 2026/27 Fantasy and will be confirmed in the rules when the game is launched this summer.

Because Gameweek 38 is the final Gameweek of the season, there is no later opportunity to reflect any post-match data changes. Keeping scores provisional until the final data review is complete helps ensure final ranks and league standings are based on the most complete and accurate match data available.

Why does this matter more in Gameweek 38?

Final Gameweek scores determine final overall ranks and final league standings. By waiting for the final post-match data review, FPL can reduce the risk of final scores being locked before relevant Opta data updates have been processed.
