Apple Intelligence’s Image Playground allows users to create unique images on their iPhones quickly and easily. Notably, this joint project between BBVA and Visa complies with all applicable technical and security standards.
According to Javier López Chicote, Head of Innovation at BBVA’s Retail Client Solutions: “For decades, the image of a bank card has been rather generic and uniform for all customers. At BBVA, we wanted to break away from that idea and place the customer firmly at the center: now they can personalize the design of their card by harnessing the power of Apple Intelligence, giving it a unique style that matches their tastes.”
The process is simple and fully integrated into the BBVA app. BBVA customers need only head to the cards section, select the Visa card they want to personalize, and either use one of their own images as a base or describe the image they want to create. Image Playground will then generate several proposals, and the design chosen by the customer will be instantly updated in the BBVA app wallet.
There are no limits to the number of images users can create, and the editing process is extremely flexible, although designs are subject to certain restrictions and usage rules agreed by both entities to protect copyrights and prevent unsuitable content.
In the words of Eduardo Prieto, Country Manager of Visa in Spain: “Visa has been innovating alongside BBVA for more than five decades to deliver safer and more personalized payment experiences, from launching the first Visa card in Spain back in 1971 to enabling the first contactless payments. This new functionality is another step forward in our joint innovation journey, giving users the power of Apple Intelligence to decide how they want their payment methods to look.”
During this initial phase, Image Playground is available on the BBVA app for virtual cards on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16. Soon, it will be extended to physical cards, which BBVA customers will be able to design and have delivered to their home.
This initiative is part of BBVA’s ongoing strategy to integrate AI into its value proposition. The new app, launched in May, offers smart features such as personalized shortcuts, habit-based recommendations, streamlined functions, and an intelligent financial assistant, making it easier for customers to manage their finances.
