Vermillio is one of the startups focusing on likeness and IP protection for rightsholders, including those in the music industry.
Sony Music co-led a $16m funding round for it in March 2025. Now the company is launching its software development kit (SDK), which in turn powers what it’s calling “AI-Guardrails-as-a-Service for the music industry”.
This is tech that helps artists to set out how their name, image, likeness and voice can and can’t be used by GenAI models, as well as detection tools that labels, artists and streaming services can use to identify and attribute music used in AI tracks.
Vermillio said that the SDK can also be used by AI-music companies, streaming services and developers to integrate its system of guardrails directly into their apps.
This isn’t just about music: Vermillio has also recently been signing deals with various large book publishers. But at a time when AI detection and attribution is in the news – see yesterday’s WMG acquisition of Sureel AI – the startup will be hoping its SDK can cement its music-industry partnerships.
