Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) is pleased to announce that real estate finance expert Kumar Tewari has joined the firm as a partner in London. He was previously a partner at US law firm Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP where he headed up the European Private Credit Real Estate Finance team in London.
Kumar brings a wealth of experience to WFW, having practiced as a debt finance lawyer for close to two decades, including almost ten years working directly in the banking industry. He is regarded as one of the UK’s leading lawyers for leveraged real estate finance, private credit direct lending, FIG lending and insolvency and restructuring matters.
His clients include top global banks, alternative/direct lenders, investors, loan servicers and sponsors whom he advises across different levels of the debt capital stack, notably on senior and mezzanine loan structures, including back-leveraged loan and complex loan-on-loan capital market structures within the real estate space. Kumar is widely respected for having helped establish the LMA Intercreditor Agreement for real estate finance transactions in 2014. He is also highly regarded for his expertise in complex intercreditor arrangements, cross-border private credit transactions, including cross-border FIG lending and general corporate lending, notably in the automotive and leasing sector.
WFW Head of International Real Estate Investment Deepa Deb commented: “I’m delighted to welcome Kumar to the firm to lead the REF practice. His extensive experience working on financing matters both as a banker and a lawyer in-house and in private practice, as well as his deep expertise in the evolving real estate finance market, represent a unique addition to WFW’s growing infrastructure practice, particularly in the context of digital infrastructure transactions”.
Kumar added: “Joining WFW represents a tremendous opportunity for both me and my clients. I look forward to working with my new colleagues and helping further enhance the firm’s robust infrastructure and real estate offering”.
