Robert Irwin can’t contain his excitement after being announced as the host for this year’s Logie Awards.

After a lot of speculation, the glitzy TV Week event confirmed last week that the 22-year-old would be taking over from comedian and presenter Sam Pang in hosting duties.

It’s a big deal for the wildlife warrior as he will become the youngest person in Logies history to score the gig.

He said it’s been an incredible honour to be given the opportunity.

“I grew up, as every Aussie does, watching the Logies,” he told Today.

“My dad had a lot to do with the Logies… he had a couple of viral moments with a venomous snake, so I think it’s only fair.

“I’m very excited… and I want to bring a little bit of that passion and Irwin energy to the Logies.”

Channel 9 presenter Sarah Abo asked Robert if he planned to mirror his dad and bring a few scary animals or insects to the evening, but the 22-year-old said he couldn’t say too much at this stage.

“I don’t want to reveal anything too early, but it’s gonna be wild, for sure,” he said.

He called his predecessor, Sam Pang, a “legend”, who hosted the Logies for three years and managed to keep each crowd laughing the whole night.

While the event typically sees Aussie A-listers dress up in their best tuxedos, evening gowns, and spicy attire, Robert said he might try to put a spin on the dress code.

“I gotta work in khaki somehow…maybe a khaki tuxedo,” he said.

Why was Robert Irwin picked to be 2026 Logies host?

TV WEEK’s Editorial Director Amber Giles said Robert was a no-brainer to host the annual event as he’s the “hottest name” on the small screen at the moment.

He’s already been hugely popular as the co-host on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here, but his stardom reached new heights late last year when he won the American version of Dancing With The Stars.

Robert’s been grabbing global headlines ever since and is even hosting a spin-off of the US program that will premiere on Hulu next month.

“To have him home hosting Australian TV’s biggest night is extremely exciting,” she added.

“We can’t wait to see what he brings to the stage in August.”

Robert is no stranger to the Logies either, after being nominated in 2024 for the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter and the Gold Logie Award.

The Logies will be held on August 16 at The Star in Sydney.
