A bear warning has been issued for the YMCA Camp Chief Hector area in Bow Valley Provincial Park after black bears were spotted feeding on natural vegetation.
Officials say while bears have been observed in and around the camp, wildlife can be encountered at any time in the region and visitors are being urged to take precautions.
Campers and park users are being reminded to travel in groups and make plenty of noise while moving through the area, stay alert to surroundings, and watch for signs of wildlife activity.

Visitors are also advised to keep pets on a leash, carry bear spray in an accessible location, and ensure they know how to use it.
Officials are also stressing the importance of securing attractants such as food, garbage, pet food and scented items in hard-sided vehicles or bear-proof storage lockers.
Anyone who spots a bear or has an encounter is asked to report it to 403-591-7755.
The advisory took effect June 18, 2026, and remains in place until further notice.
