Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton was a major factor in the early years of Prince William and Prince Harry’s working royal lives, serving as private secretary to the brothers from 2005 to 2013.
JLP, as the former aide is known, also helped Kate Middleton learn the royal ropes as she married into the family in 2011, and he is godfather to Prince George.
In a new interview, Lowther-Pinkerton shared where he stands on “that Harry issue” amid the brothers’ long estrangement.
Prince William and Prince Harry’s former private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton—who served in that role from 2005 to 2013 and is also godfather to Prince George—is weighing in on the ongoing rift between the brothers (well, kind of).
In a new interview with The Times, Lowther-Pinkerton sidestepped a question about William and Harry’s feud, but did reveal where he stands on “that Harry issue.”

In rare comments about the matter—and after being asked whether he thought reconciliation is possible between the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex—the former aide answered diplomatically. “Do you know what?” he said. “I think I’d better steer clear of that Harry issue.”
He did express personal affection for Harry, adding, “What I would say is that I was and am very fond of him. He has huge redeeming features, and I’m a perennial optimist.”

Of William and Harry, Lowther-Pinkerton said, “I loved them both,” adding that both men are “Brave guys.”
“When they were soldiers, it was important that they did it right and properly,” he continued. “That’s how I saw that 10 years I had [with them], primarily to get it right so they could say, as my Anglo-Irish father used to say, ‘I’ve known the days. I’ve done it.’”
In his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry referred to “JLP” as “deeply calm, slightly stiff,” and “a force, the product of Britain’s finest military training, which meant, among other things, that he didn’t deal in bullshit. He didn’t give it, didn’t take it, and everyone, far and wide, seemed to know.”

In his interview with The Times, Lowther-Pinkerton called Princess Diana “such a breath of fresh air” and “a sort of really buzzy live wire.” Of Kate Middleton—who he helped show the ropes when she married into the royal family in 2011—he added, “She’s a really cool woman. Amazing. [William] chose well.”
“I think they’re great,” he said of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

He ran into the future queen (almost literally) at a royal engagement in Suffolk in 2025, and she went to greet him with a polite kiss. “I was so embarrassed, I nearly headbutted her,” Lowther-Pinkerton said. “I didn’t know if I should be bowing. It was so sweet of her.”
Of George, who will turn 13 this summer and begin school at Eton College in the fall, he added, “I’m going to be a better godfather. It sounds awful. But I’m a better godfather when it comes time to have a bit of fun. I’ve got other godchildren and I have huge fun with them when they reach a certain point, so hopefully that’ll be the time when JLP comes out of the chrysalis.”

Lowther-Pinkerton’s interview comes ahead of Harry’s planned trip to the U.K. in July; he is expected to bring along his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, for the first time since 2022. Harry will be back in his home country for the one year to go events ahead of the Invictus Games’s next iteration in Birmingham, England, slated for 2027.
As for William and Harry reuniting during this upcoming trip, Hello!’s royal editor Emily Nash told Page Six—perhaps not surprisingly—“I certainly wouldn’t expect anything to happen on this visit. I mean, you never know.”
“If it was part of a wider family gathering, it’s possible they could be at the same place at the same time,” she added. “But, you know, given the very fractious nature of the relationship between William and Harry, I don’t see them rushing to spend time together just because Harry’s back in the U.K.”
“These things have to happen step by step,” Nash continued. “When things have been as difficult and as estranged as they have been in that family, I wouldn’t expect things to change overnight.”
