2026 is setting itself up to be another blistering year for Jason Statham fans as another of his upcoming action movies has finally set a release date. This time around, Statham will be battling the elements as well the usual rogue’s gallery of past mistakes, tough bad guys, and some dubious moral choices in the movie Shelter, which comes from Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh. Fans will get to kick off the year with the Stath, as the movie will be released in cinemas on January 30, 2026.
The movie has plenty of the usual Statham elements, but the specifics of the plot see him playing the reclusive Mason, who rescues a young girl from the sea during a violent storm. Naturally, this is not a simple case of fixing her up and packing her off, as the rescue leads to a chain reaction of events that bring danger to Mason’s door and force him to face some of his past choices. With this set up, you can expect all the usual Statham hallmarks, just with gusting wind and rain added into the mix.
Waugh directs from a script by Ward Parry, and Statham will have plenty of strong support from costars Bill Nighy, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, and newcomer Bodhi Rae Breathnach co-star. Black Bear is handling U.S. theatrical distribution, and Shelter could get their new year off to a strong start if the film can tap into the same audience that made The Beekeeper a hit in 2024.
2026 Could Be Another Great Year for Jason Statham
Universal Pictures
Jason Statham has not been short of work in the last few years, following his success with The Beekeeper with A Working Man this year. Both of those movies are now huge streaming hits, and Statham will be back on the big screen at least twice in 2026.
The January release of Shelter puts it ahead of the Lionsgate release of Mutiny, Statham’s summer release from director Jean-Francois Richet, who helmed Gerard Butler action hit Plane, which previously shifted from its original January slot. In Mutiny, Statham plays Cole Reed, a former special-ops soldier and NYPD cop framed for murder by his billionaire friend, and must face an international conspiracy to clear his name.
This may not be the last Statham movie to be added to 2026’s schedule, as the ever-popular action star is also currently filming The Beekeeper 2, which sees him return to the role of assassin Adam Clay, and could well manage to find a release date later in 2026. If this does happen, it will only be the second time in a decade that fans have been treated to a triple bill of Statham goodness in the same year, something that was a frequent occurrence in the early 2000s.
For anyone who cannot wait for January to roll around, A Working Man is currently topping the Prime Video movie chart in the U.S., and Statham’s Levon Cade would love you to join him for a couple of hours.
