Daisy Ridley has done all sorts since leaving the Star Wars galaxy behind (for now). She’s swum the channel in Young Woman And The Sea, faced oblivion in Sometimes I Think About Dying, and used her producer muscle to bring Magpie to the screen. Next up? She’s encountering zombies in We Bury The Dead – her first time facing the undead since she battled the resurrected Palpatine in Episode IX. This time she stars as Ava, searching for her husband after a devastating incident – only to find that the dead won’t stay dead. Watch the trailer:

We Bury The Dead comes from Australian writer-director Zak Hilditch, who previously helmed Netflix’s bleak Stephen King adaptation 1922, and horror drama Rattlesnake. Early word on his latest film has been positive out of SXSW – and it looks to mark another example of Ridley pushing herself into new territory before she eventually returns as Rey. Here’s the brief synopsis: “After a catastrophic military disaster, the dead don’t just rise – they hunt. Ava (Daisy Ridley) searches for her missing husband, but what she finds is far more terrifying.”

Audiences down under will get to see We Bury The Dead first, heading to cinemas in Australia and New Zealand on 9 October, followed by a US release on 2 January. Stay tuned for news of a UK release.
