As part of Nintendo‘s iconic franchise, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie currently stands as the highest-grossing film of the year, having raked in $1.009 billion worldwide against a $110 million production budget. The animated feature is also the second-highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time, sitting just behind its 2023 predecessor, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned $1.361 billion. Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hit theaters on April 1, 2026, before landing on VOD on May 19, 2026, and later on 4K Ultra-HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on June 16.
Shortly after the physical release, Universal announced the space adventure’s official streaming debut on Peacock, set for July 30, 2026. Thanks to the studio’s long-term licensing agreement with Netflix for its animated slate, fans can also expect the movie to hit the platform later this year. Specifically, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will arrive on Netflix in the United States on November 30, 2026. The rollout follows Universal’s established streaming window formula, whereby the film streams exclusively on Peacock for the first four months after its theatrical window, then heads to Netflix for ten months, and finally returns to Peacock for an additional four months.
