Gtech Community Stadium gets ready to host another opponent from Manchester in back-to-back weeks, as Manchester City visits on Sunday to close out week six of the Premier League before the international break.
Brentford played their best game under Keith Andrews when they made light work of Manchester United last weekend, beating them 3-1 at home. Igor Thiago was on target twice, and the Bees held on before scoring a late insurance goal to seal the result. Their defensive shape improved, and the attack delivered on all the potential it showed from the previous games. Consistency is their next agenda, along with fixing a leaking defence. They will be looking to sting City again at Gtech Stadium after an entertaining 2-2 draw last season. A surprise result could take them level on points with their opponents.
Manchester City’s season has been hot and cold so far. Pep Guardiola’s side can batter Burnley 5-1 in one game and then lose points to Monaco by conceding a last-minute penalty in another. The team is struggling for consistency as they adjust to Guardiola’s altered game plan. The Cityzens play multiple systems now, thanks to Pepijn Lijnders’ pressing system and added inputs. It adds an element of unpredictability but also takes a toll on the players to learn new roles. The draw against Arsenal made it well evident. But expect the Cityzens to be relentless against Brentford to begin their title charge.

Brentford vs Manchester City Key Matchups
Nathan Collins vs Erling Haaland – Haaland has been in scintillating form this season. His tally of 8 puts him in pole position for the Golden Boot. With his link-up play going up a notch, he has developed into an all-around forward. He will face Collins, who had his fair share of troubles against United. The defender was lucky not to see a red card for denying a goal-scoring opportunity, as he conceded a penalty which was later saved. He will be on his toes against the Big Norwegian, who needs some stopping.
Jordan Henderson vs Phil Foden – Foden loves scoring against Brentford, and the star English attacker is slowly returning to form. He needs consistent game time and a couple of goals to rediscover his Player of the Season form. Henderson, who enjoyed a few epic battles with Foden in Liverpool’s colours, will renew his rivalry in a Brentford shirt now. The veteran midfielder is in top form for the Bees and looks to get one over his old foe.Â
Igor Thiago vs Ruben Dias – Thiago doubled his tally for the season in the game against United, as he is getting to his best after an injury-riddled first season with Brentford. The Brazilian striker often leads the line alone or plays in a strike pair with Kevin Schade. Expect him to cause plenty of problems for Dias with his physicality. The Portuguese defender is rarely comfortable with imposing strikers, as he often loses his duels, leading to opportunities.
Brentford vs Manchester City Prediction
Brentford will take a lot of confidence from their victory against United last weekend. They had a week’s rest heading into this clash. Manchester City, on the other hand, have little turnaround between their Champions League and league assignments. Guardiola will consider rotating his side to keep the players fresh. However, you can expect the Cityzens to turn up the heat when it matters and get the result.
GOAL’s Prediction: Brentford 1-3 Manchester City

The Bees have a near full squad to choose from. Resiss Nelson and Gustavo Gomes are the only absentees through minor injuries. Andrews will be hoping to maintain a constant four at the back shape instead of fielding five at the back to neutralise a superior opposition. He has enough quality to hurt the opposition with his set tactics. The lineup might remain largely unchanged from the previous weekend. Keane Lewis-Potter and Mathias Jensen will be hopeful of getting a start after their impressive performances off the bench.
Predicted Lineup: Kelleher; Kayode, Collins, van den Berg, Hickey; Henderson, Jensen; Ouattara, Damsgaard, Schade; Thiago

Guardiola has no new injury concerns to worry about as the absentees remain the same. Mateo Kovacic returned to training, but he might not see game time until after the international break. He will, however, rotate his lineup to manage the fitness levels of his players. Rico Lewis will replace John Stones, who played right-back against Monaco. Rodri, who got an hour’s action midweek, might expect the same on the weekend as well. A rested Savinho will take the left-wing spot from Jeremy Doku as Bernardo Silva eyes a spot on the right as well. The double 10s of Tijjani Reijnders and Foden might continue as Haaland continues to be untouchable in the number nine role.
Predicted Lineup: Donnarumma; Lewis, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly; Rodri; Silva, Foden, Reijnders, Savinho; Haaland

It was a game that truly summed up Manchester City’s turbulent season. Both sides wasted plenty of chances in the first half as it ended 0-0. Foden, who loves Brentford, scored a double in the second half as City looked like the favourites for all three points. However, Yoane Wisse struck first for the Bees in the 82nd minute to reduce the arrears. Christian Norgaard then scored a fantastic header in the 92nd minute to snatch a point for the hosts. Nathan Ake cleared a goal-bound effort off the line in the 95th minute to save City’s face and end the contest level-headed.
