The first graduating class from Lamar Institute of Technology’s associate degree nursing program has achieved a 100% first-time pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, a milestone school officials say marks a successful start for the new program.
All 20 graduates in the inaugural 16-month cohort passed the NCLEX-RN exam on their first attempt and have secured jobs as registered nurses, according to LIT.
The NCLEX-RN is the national licensing exam required for graduates to become registered nurses in the United States.
“This inaugural class embraced a rigorous curriculum that required extraordinary commitment, sacrifice and resilience,” said Misty Jones, LIT’s nursing program director. “This achievement reflects what is possible when dedicated students, committed faculty and strong healthcare partners come together with a shared purpose.”
Jones said the program’s success extends beyond the classroom as graduates begin caring for patients throughout Southeast Texas and beyond.
“While we celebrate these remarkable milestones, our greatest measure of success is knowing that our graduates are now making a difference in the lives of patients and families throughout our communities,” Jones said.

LIT officials said the associate degree nursing program was created to help address the growing demand for registered nurses by preparing students to enter the workforce in 16 months.
Registration for the Fall 2026 semester is underway, with online registration closing Aug. 21. Applications for the program’s next cohort will open Jan. 1, 2027.
