Akai Professional has released a new MPC One. The second-generation G2 is a hardware refresh of the popular standalone sampler and sequencer originally released in 2020.
Major updates include a new 8-core processor that Akai says delivers four times the performance of the previous generation, paired with 4GB of RAM—double that of its predecessor—and 64GB of internal storage, up from 16GB.
The G2 supports up to 32 simultaneous plugin instruments and 16 stereo audio tracks in standalone mode, giving you considerably more space and range to build and finish tracks without a DAW.
It comes bundled with the MPC 3.9 OS, which introduces a DAW-like linear arranger directly on the hardware, plus a built-in oscillator engine for synthesising sounds and deeper interoperability with external DAWs. 24-in/24-out audio streaming and 32 channels of MIDI I/O all go through one USB-C cable. You also get Ableton Live Control Mode and the ability to import and export projects to Ableton.
The updated groove box ships with over 20GB of sounds and plugins, including 11 instrument plugins, nine expansion packs and Native Instruments Analog Dreams MPC Edition. The blue finish is a departure from the classic red and beige MPC livery, evoking the colour scheme of the MPC1000 and MPC4000, which were released in the early ’00s.
The G2 is priced $799/£729/€849. Akai has simultaneously released the MPC Key 37 G2, which adds a three-octave keybed to the same platform, priced at $999/£849/€999.
