🆕 What’s new on Netflix in September 2025
1. Bring Her Back (HBO Max)
Australian YouTubers Danny and Michael Philippou turned heads in the horror sphere with their 2022 debut Talk To Me, and if their follow-up doesn’t necessarily show much advancement, it’s another effectively disturbing outing exploring similar themes of grief and its long-term psychological effects. Two orphaned step-siblings are taken in by a foster mother (an excellent Sally Hawkins) and find themselves pawns in a strange occult ritual. Read our review.
Watch Bring Her Back on HBO Max starting October 3
2. M3GAN 2.0 (Peacock)
Mostly trading campy horror for action-comedy, the sequel to the surprise 2023 hit about a murderous robot babysitter goes the Terminator 2 route, reprogramming the previous film’s villain to fight a greater evil, and in the process loses much of what made the original go viral. Still, it’s two AI dolls fighting each other to the death. How much can you really complain? Read our review.

3. Steve (Netflix)
He’s been Oppenheimer. He’s been the Scarecrow. Now, Cillian Murphy is… Steve. Just Steve. Uninspired title aside, this drama, profiling a reform school teacher in a mental health spiral, looks intensely intimate, with Murphy delivering a typically compelling, humanistic performance.
Watch Steve on Netflix starting October 3
4. Play Dirty (Prime)
Somehow, a new action-thriller written and directed by Shane Black, starring Mark Wahlberg and LaKeith Stanfield, adapted from a popular crime novelist, has flown completely under the radar. Maybe that’s a bad sign, but the elements are enough to give it a watch. Based on the Parker book series by Donald Westlake, Wahlberg is a thief who stumbles into the high-risk, high-reward job of a lifetime.
Watch Play Dirty on Prime starting October 1
5. V/H/S/Halloween (Shudder)
The V/H/S series has become a semi-annual tradition for hardcore horror heads, and this installment goes especially meta with five short Halloween-themed chillers from the likes of Alex Ross Perry (Pavements) and Paco Plaza ([REC]). Like all anthology films, it’s guaranteed to be hit or miss, but the ratio is likely to lean positive.
