Stranger Things actor Sadie Sink will officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Despite being cast back in May, fans are still no closer to learning who Sink will be playing in the MCU sequel.

In fact, much of Brand New Day remains shrouded in mystery, including who the main villain of the superhero blockbuster will be. However, that may soon change, as insider John Rocha recently revealed new details about the primary Brand New Day antagonist on the latest episode of his The Hot Mic podcast. “I have had some sources reach out to me close to the production, and someone who recently was at a Disney presentation for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. What I am being told … [is that] the main villain is a female shapeshifter,” Rocha shared. “They have cast the person, but I am not allowed to say who it was. Not sure if they are the Chameleon or not, but they are a shapeshifter.”

Only three female actors have officially been confirmed for Brand New Day: Zendaya, Sink, and Liza Colón-Zayas. Zendaya will be back as her MCU character Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, while Sink and Colón-Zayas’ roles remain undisclosed at this time. Sink has been rumored for pretty much every major female Marvel character at this point, especially those with red hair like Mary Jane Watson, Jean Grey, and Firestar. It’s possible that she could actually be playing the main antagonist, although that would contradict what trusted scooper Alex Perez shared last month about Sink’s character, which was that “she is an ally to Peter.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds actor Melanie Scrofano has hinted on her socials that she will be part of Brand New Day. Since her casting remains unconfirmed by Marvel at this time, Scrofano could very easily be the shapeshifting villain and not Sink. Of course, until Marvel and Sony reveal more details about Brand New Day, fans will likely be left in the dark about what the movie is about until the first trailer is released.

The female shapeshifter is one of several villains who are expected to appear in Brand New Day. Rocha confirmed during The Hot Mic that “Tombstone and Scorpion are in the film, but they are not the main villains.” He also revealed that he had heard “from a source from overseas, and take this with a grain of salt, [that] Boomerang is also going to be a part of this movie.” Despite being created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Tales to Astonish back in the 1960s, Boomerang is nowhere near as popular as the rest of Spider-Man’s rogues, although he did recently lead the Sinister Six in the comics.

While Boomerang remains unconfirmed, Marvin Jones III and Michael Mando have been cast as Tombstone and Scorpion for Brand New Day, with the latter reprising his role from 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. They join an ensemble cast that also includes Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and Tramell Tillman in an undisclosed role, with Tom Holland back in the lead role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
