DC has teased a wave of new villains for mainstream-continuity Batman, and now one has officially been unveiled, already making the Joker look like a complete joke: the Minotaur. So who is this new villain, and how has he already claimed victory over the Dark Knight?

At Comic-Con San Diego Malaga, Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez, the creative team behind Batman’s new ongoing series, teased the Dark Knight’s latest foe: the Minotaur. They revealed the cover for Batman #4, releasing December 3, 2025, featuring both Batman and the villain, along with concept art for Minotaur.

Minotaur’s character design is both sleek and eerie, with the villain sporting a stylish three-piece black suit featuring red detailing, paired with a high-tech, futuristic Minotaur helmet. At the panel, Fraction noted that the Minotaur fits with the visual quirks of Batman’s rogue gallery and is partially inspired by the fashion of Ian Fleming.

The expressionless mask and ominous red glow from the visor heighten the character’s eeriness, but it’s his seven-fingered hand that signals he is far more than a wealthy villain with a Greek mythology obsession. Beyond the striking design, Fraction and Jiménez’s comments make it clear that the Minotaur’s threat level surpasses the Joker, establishing him as a truly formidable new foe.

At Comic-Con San Diego Malaga, it was revealed that the Minotaur was created by Fraction and Jiménez specifically for their series. However, they also confirmed that he will remain part of Batman’s rogue gallery long-term, making it clear that this new villain is far from a one-hit wonder and is a cunning opponent who is here to stay.

It is confirmed that the Minotaur will not be a supervillain seeking to conquer the world, but one who already wields secret control. This gives off strong Court of Owls and Sovereign vibes, emphasizing hidden power and influence. Like the Court, the Minotaur manipulates events in Gotham from the shadows, quietly pulling strings that shape the city around him.

However, the Minotaur aligns more with Tom King’s Wonder Woman antagonist, the Sovereign (the secret king of the United States), given that he is a single individual rather than a secret society. Either way, the Minotaur has already established significant control, setting him up to be one of Batman’s most powerful and consequential villains to date, promising a story with serious stakes for the Dark Knight.

Batman #4 will be available on December 3, 2025, from DC Comics!
