The United States announced a series of sanctions against a senior Egyptian member of the Muslim Brotherhood residing in Britain and against three individuals and three organizations outside Egypt that provided material support to Hamas. State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the move was designed to target shell organizations that transfer funds to finance terrorism. Pigott noted, ‘The action exposes the tentacles of the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas-directed shell organizations, which use charity fronts and underground networks to disguise and transfer funds in support of terrorism.’
