The latest supernatural thriller from an MCU alum is ready to stir up a frightening new mystery when it hits streaming in just a few short months. Shudder is known for highlighting genre cinema, offering viewers bold visions of horror and twisted thrillers. The service’s latest is from director Jordan Downey, known for The Head Hunter and V/H/S/Beyond. His new supernatural mystery, called The Cycle, is due to release on the streaming service on October 23, delivering the bleak tale just in time for Halloween.

The Cycle enlists Daredevil: Born Again star Deborah Ann Woll to lead the film as Meg. She’s been estranged from her father, who has been missing for 36 years. However, his body turned up at the scene of a bizarre crime that the police are now investigating. Meg doesn’t seem to know much, but as she begins to unravel the mystery, horrific events reveal the true nightmare at play. The Cycle also stars Jeffrey Donovan of Burn Notice and Sicario fame, alongside Will Hochman, Jack Doolan, Carl W. Crudup, Jeb Berrier, Gretchen Corbett, and David Myers Gregory.

Shudder shared the first teaser trailer for The Cycle on YouTube, promising a bleak mystery, ghastly imagery, and heart-pounding tension, with Woll’s stellar performance bolstering each thrilling second.

The trailer promises dark family secrets, mixing dark imagery with generational trauma to cultivate fear through supernatural revelations. When Woll’s involvement was first announced in 2024, producer Jamie Harris shared the studio’s enthusiasm for The Cycle, stating (via Bloody Disgusting):

“We are so excited about The Cycle, Jordan has crafted such an original story that is gonna excite audiences. For us he has the ability to be the next great genre filmmaker and we can wait to make the movie.”

Before starring as Karen Page in Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again, Woll first stunned audiences with her impeccable performance in HBO’s True Blood, and she has made waves in stellar genre films like Mother’s Day and Escape Room. Woll has a popular following in the Dungeons & Dragons community, hosting shows like Relics and Rarities and making a name for herself as a lauded Dungeon Master. She is returning for Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, but Woll is also leading the next God of War video game. She first played Laufey, Kratos’ wife, in God of War: Ragnarök, with the actor returning to the role in her own game, God of War: Laufey, which is expected to release in February 2027.

The first teaser trailer for The Cycle lays the foundation for an undeniably engrossing and terrifying mystery that is thankfully only a few short months away. While reviews are still to come, 2026 has seen a run of exceptional horror with movies like Hokum and Obsession, and The Cycle could be another bold story to keep your eye on. Further details on The Cycle will be forthcoming as the release date nears.
