Following the smash hit that was Barbie, Mattel is bringing its model car brand Matchbox to the screen.
Matchbox: The Movie will star John Cena as CIA agent Sean Walker, who heads back home to meet up with the childhood friends that he used to play Matchbox cars with, and gets them involved in all kinds of car capers on a mission to find a lost nuclear warhead and save the world.
Cena is no stranger to automotive action, having previously starred as Jakob Toretto in F9: The Fast Saga. Alongside him will be Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, and Arturo Castro.

Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, Cena, who performed most of his own stunts, confessed that the filming had been rather frightening. “I like fight choreography,” he said. “Some of you have seen me do that in WWE. Becoming invisible, that’s my strength. I hate ledges. I hate heights. I hate cheating death.”
According to USA Today, co-star Biel said that driving real-life Matchbox cars made her “feel like a kid again.”
As you can see from the trailer, the Matchbox gang gets to drive all manner of different machines, from motorcycles and ATVs to six-wheeled Land Rovers, classic Mustangs, and more. It appears to be not too far off from The Fast and Furious franchise, including some remarkably similar stunt scenes.
Still, at least if you subscribe to Apple TV, you’ll be able to watch Matchbox The Movie for free starting October 9. No word on what cool car Cena will purchase with the proceeds.
