The glamorous photos you see on your social media feed don’t always reflect reality. In fact, being in the spotlight brings constant scrutiny that can take its toll on influencers.

Alix Earle recently opened up about these struggles. The 25-year-old, who is usually seen living it up at VIP events, jet-setting around the globe and serving stunning looks, has bravely lifted the lid on the darker side of internet fame.

While people may assume her life is all fun and parties, the American star admitted there can be hard days. This month, she suffered a panic attack after being bombarded with negative comments online.

Taking to TikTok, she explained: “I know I haven’t posted anything on here in the past few days. Honestly, I just sort of took some time for myself and tried not to be online as much because I was getting into not the best place.”

While she’s been dealing with social media commenters’ opinions for years, Alix confessed that “it’s felt more negative” in recent months.

She added: “Obviously, it’s gonna get to you or make you overthink when you’re constantly reading about what you’re doing, the way you look, who you’re hanging out with, what you’re saying.”

All this pressure pushed Alix to her breaking point last week, when she “broke down in tears” during a flight. She explained: “I was on the plane and I had a panic attack.”

So instead of sweeping these struggles under the rug, Alix decided to speak candidly with her followers about how the negativity can lead to her “hating” herself.

Her words are a reminder that influencers are human beings with the same insecurities and mental health battles as the rest of us. For that reason, it’s important for keyboard warriors to think about what they are typing before sending hateful messages.

Thankfully, Alix is taking steps to look after herself since posting the refreshingly honest video. She has spent time with friends in Miami, where she took a break instead of vlogging the trip.

Fans have also rallied around the influencer, with 1.6 million people viewing her TikTok video and hundreds leaving positive comments. One said: “People throw rocks at things that shine.” Another wrote: “I missed you.”

A third commented: “Girl, don’t let anyone steal your joy. Some people are real energy and joy suckers on here!” And a fourth added: “The more successful you are, the more people will try to tear you down. We love you.”
