When one of their pregnant giraffes began showing concerning medical issues, the staff at Tanganyika Wildlife Park did everything they could to improve her condition. Over the course of a month, it became clear that despite their best efforts, the mother would not survive the rest of her pregnancy. Faced with an impossibly difficult decision, they chose to help deliver her calf before she passed away.
Since then, the team has worked tirelessly to keep the tiny calf alive and give her the best chance at a long, healthy life. The level of care she requires is comparable to what humans might receive in an intensive care unit. Because she was born prematurely, the staff had to quickly develop a plan to provide the specialized support she needed.

The team has provided around-the-clock care—literally—and shared a video diary documenting life while caring for a newborn giraffe 24/7. The TikTok clip captures countless heartwarming moments as different staff members take turns caring for the sweet girl. The little calf has even “attended” virtual meetings, helped answer emails, and enjoyed plenty of midday naps in her caregivers’ laps.
As the video shows, this tiny giraffe is never alone. At times, multiple caregivers are in her stall, checking on her, providing assistance, and sharing quiet moments with her. Her journey may be longer than most baby giraffes’, but with this dedicated team by her side, she has an incredible chance of eventually joining the rest of the herd at the park.
