Working with us
When you work at the News Literacy Project, you will collaborate with a group of remarkably dedicated people on one of the most pressing issues of our time. We embrace diverse viewpoints and unique life experiences as a way to strengthen our work’s quality and impact.
We are a virtual workplace with staff members located across the country. Our team works remotely with access to a Washington, D.C., office for in-person collaboration. We foster a supportive, inclusive culture where people feel that the work they do matters. Diversity strengthens our mission, and we’re committed to our organizational values, with an emphasis on independence and nonpartisanship.
Important notice for job seekers
Thanks for your interest, we’re happy you’re here! Some tips: Please apply directly through our website or recognized job portals. NLP does not engage the services of external recruiters unless it is stated in the job posting. All hiring is done directly through our official channels. Be cautious if you are solicited for a position by someone who claims to be from NLP, and verify such solicitations by sending an inquiry to [email protected].
Feel free to share a posting with someone who might be a good fit. You can also send us your resume for general consideration — we’ll keep it on file for six months.
Leave policies: Unlimited paid time off (PTO): We offer unlimited leave to all salaried employees. There is no preset amount of PTO that employees can take, and eligible employees do not accrue PTO. This benefit is an extension of our commitment to providing work flexibility to employees and is not additional compensation for work performed. PTO-eligible employees can decide when and how much time to take off — subject to their responsibilities to the organization and with manager approval.
Sick leave: Sick leave is not accrued and has no preset limit; it is not additional compensation but a reflection of our commitment to employee flexibility. It should be used to care for oneself or family members.
Paid holidays: NLP offers a total of 17 paid holidays annually, including 11 federal holidays and six additional days.
In addition, NLP offers eligible team members the following options:
Comp days for required weekend work or travel.
Bereavement leave.
A generous parental leave policy.
