On Instagram, Drake just shared what might just be the rarest piece in the entire watch world. While Rolex routinely drops special “off-catalog” pieces—extremely limited and high-priced variations on its watches that often feature over-the-top diamond settings—getting the Crown to do a true one-of-one is practically unheard of these days. This doesn’t appear to be a problem if you’re Drake, though.
On Friday night, the rapper posted a Daytona that is unlike anything else in the Rolex catalog. The case and dial of the watch share the typical glitz and glamour seen in the really high-end off-catalog pieces. Much like the one worn by Roger Federer last year, Drake’s Daytona has a pavé diamond dial and sapphires set just about everywhere you could possibly put them. Hour markers? Yes. Bezel? Of course. Lugs? Why not?
But what really sets this watch apart from anything Rolex has done before is the bracelet. Drake shared in his caption that the name of his one-of-one is the “Ice Gradient” Daytona, and the bracelet shows us why. The rapper started his reveal of the watch at the clasp, where there are white diamonds, and slowly rolled his wrist to show the rest of the watch, revealing the bracelet transitions slowly from clear to blue. Watch spotter and historian Nick Gould found that Rolex patented the style of this setting in Switzerland in 2023 and did the same in the US just last year. Drake wants to keep it unique to him, too. “Please do not get your local jeweler to recreate this,” he wrote in his Instagram caption. “This is a stand alone and a part of history.”
The rapper said the watch was “Crafted to celebrate the record breaking milestones of 2026,” referencing the triumvirate of albums he released simultaneously. This is clearly made for Iceman, the favorite among the three. The caseback is engraved with the phrase, “Freeze the World.”
The superlatives for this watch are flying out of the gate. “Today I received the most important thing I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning,” Drake himself wrote in his caption. Mike Nouveau, dealer and WatchTok King, estimated in a video that this is the most expensive Rolex ever sold at the retail level. And this is a watch worth all the hyperbole: insane, jaw-dropping, wild, crazy, shocking. A one-of-one watch using a new, heretofore unseen setting style from the biggest and most consequential luxury watch brand in the world? Notice Drake didn’t say this is the most important watch he owns (and he has many worthy of that label). It’s the most important thing, period.
