There’s something for everyone in August’s big TV renewals. For fans of Canadian YA, Sterling Point has been renewed for Season 2 at Prime Video. For the horror fans, HBO has renewed IT: Welcome to Derry for a second season, which will travel even further back in time. For fans of beach reads, Peacock’s big hit The Five Star Weekend is returning for a second season of sun, shores, and secrets, even though there’s no more source material to adapt following the conclusion of the first season. (But that won’t stop a streaming service from capitalizing on popularity; it was Peacock’s biggest hit EVER.) And for The Big Bang Theory fans, HBO Max is renewing its ambitious multiverse comedy spin-off, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Unlike The Five Star Weekend, Stuart’s multiverse setting means there are literally unlimited directions to go in. Perhaps a universe in which there was a second The Five Star Weekend book?
Plus, Shemar Moore battled to get his S.W.A.T. spin-off S.W.A.T. Exiles off the ground, but he won’t have to fight to get a second season, as Starz renewed it before the series ever premiered. Netflix has ordered new seasons of The Gentlemen and America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. And Hulu has announced the renewal of Good American Family, making the true crime drama an anthology series.
In sadder news, after a long wait, the month’s first cancellation is here: Hulu will not be ordering a third season of Deli Boys.
