LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Monday will mark the start of a second week of witness testimony in the trial of the only man charged in the murder of rap icon Tupac Shakur.
Duane “Keffe D” Davis is expected to return to the courtroom as prosecutors continue to present their case to 12 jurors and four alternates.
Last week’s proceedings reviewed the fatal 1996 shooting that claimed Shakur’s life, with testimony from witnesses to what happened, the first officers on scene, the detectives who originally handled the case, and former gang-affiliated people who described the bloody feud between rap labels.
Jurors also heard audio from Davis’ interviews with law enforcement in 2008 and 2009, in which he discussed details of the shooting and how he wanted retribution for a fight involving his nephew, Orlando Anderson, inside a Las Vegas Strip casino.
In the recordings, Davis tells investigators that he provided the gun used to fatally shoot Shakur. He also says that he would have fired the shots himself had Shakur and Marion “Suge” Knight been on his side of the vehicle on Flamingo Road.
Davis has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. His attorney has argued that Davis’ comments were fiction created to make money from television appearances and book deals.
