In news that will be of little surprise but hugely welcome to fans, it has been confirmed that Diane Morgan and Sarah Kendall’s comedy Ann Droid has been renewed for a second season.
The first episode of the series attracted 7.6 million viewers in 28 days, making it the BBC’s second biggest new scripted launch of the year to date, after Small Prophets.
Morgan and Sue Johnston will both officially be back as Linda and Sue, while it is also expected that Paul Ready will return as Sue’s son Michael for the six-episode second season, which was announced today (Thursday 27 August) at the Edinburgh TV Festival’s Spotlight on the BBC session.
On the renewal, Morgan said: “The response to Ann Droid has been so incredible. We’re all totally blown away. I’m really looking forward to not blinking, needing physio and hearing Cotton Eyed Joe on repeat.”
At Edinburgh TV Festival 2026, Kate Phillips also revealed her desire for the series to get a Christmas special at some point too.

Meanwhile, Johnston added: “I am so unbelievably happy that we are to do another series! Great script, great cast, great crew. The reaction from the public has been wonderful. Even my doctor called me Sue, Sue, Sue this morning! Everyone has been asking if there will be more and now we can tell them! Yippee.”
Emma Lawson, interim director of BBC Comedy, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Ann Droid back for a second series. Diane and Sarah have created such a warm, relatable, and uniquely funny comedy that audiences in their millions have fallen in love with.
“Alongside the brilliant team at [production companies] Boffola and Witchcraft Industries, they’ve given us something truly distinctive, and Linda and Sue Sue Sue have quickly become two of comedy’s most lovable characters. We’re thrilled that we will all get to spend more time with them!”

Ann Droid has been a huge hit with viewers and critics alike, with our own review praising Morgan’s performance and the show’s emotional resonance.
The final episode of season 1 ended with Michael seemingly finding a connection with Jeffrey’s (Rupert Vansittart) romance robot, Melody (Carla Woodcock), while Sue and Linda are reunited after the latter was originally sent to be scrapped.
