Sir, – A correspondent (Letters, September 1st) tells us that he has just had his 54th flight in the first eight months of the year and that he knows his “carbon footprint is appalling”. I am in my 70s, and I have had one flight to India and five or six to the UK in my lifetime.
Before I retired, I was a small-time food producer, and I am now finding it hard to understand why it is the food producers (farmers) of this country who are being blamed for their carbon footprints, for damaging the atmosphere, and are now being paid to reduce food production in a world that is starving.
Surely the solution is for people to stop, or at least reduce, flying around the world as they are doing? – Yours, etc,
